Congress does not have the authority to force states to recognize any particular kind of marriage. The Constitution is basically a specific list of things the federal government can do, because it is shorter to list what it can do than to list what it can't. Any power not given specifically by the Constitution to Congress is a power that resides with the state, and I quote, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." (Amendment 10) Therefore, Congress cannot enforce such a law where it has no power.

I oppose this bill, even though I am gay, on the simple ground that it violates the rights of individual states to regulate marriage- this is not a issue that should be handled on the federal level. Marriages performed in Vermont should not be forced on Alabama if it violates that state's law.
However, if a couple is legally married from their home state then the federal government should recognize that marriage. As well as this, while I believe that marriage is a sacred institution between 2 committed individuals regardless of gender, laws opposing bisexuality and polygamy should be enforced from the state's as well as the federal government. Again, difficult and hot button issue but, some federal laws need to be mandated, so the institution does not get bulldozed over and demolished by some far-left states.

Gay marriage is unnatural and immoral. Men and women were made for each other, naturally. For reproduction, and etc. When there are two guys, it is impossible for them to naturally reproduce children. As far as morality goes, think about it, a child growing up with gay parents, that child will grow up confused. He or She will wonder why do I have two Dads? or two Moms? when my best friend has a Dad and a Mom. I support the bill in question as:
1.Under the first amendment as citizens we are granted the freedom to practice any religion we chose to. To that end, the fight against gay marriage has always been religiously based on Christian views and since the government is barred from recognizing the rights of a specific religion over another, that argument is null and void.
2.Under the equal opportunity protection clause the rights of the individual person are the same, whether or not they are homosexual or heterosexual.
3.The 10th amendment regarding it is a state right to ban or approve of gay marriage is nullified do to the individual right of the person.

Why is it necessary that government has to acknowledge any marriage. God is not a part of government, but neither is gay culture. Marriage is a issue between consenting individuals in a form of a private contract or a religious expression through church.
Privatize marriage, the government has no right to tell me who I can or can't marry. Anyone can get married to anything or anyone if it is voluntary and through private contract OR church.

We live in a time when people make many mistakes, because of their ignorance of traditional and righteous actions. People forgot what our ancestors were fighting for, thus people become shrouded with mistakes and they are in their own world which is full of misinformation.

It is unconstitutional to propose this prohibitive act on our american public. This is a terrible idea. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman. It is bad enough that state governments are voting and making Same-Sex marriage legal. But it definitely is not a federal issue, if anything I think that the people of each state should vote on this matter. As shown in California citizens are against Same-Sex Marriage. Government is here solely here to serve the American citizens, and by us passing laws of this importance without having the people vote on it. We are taking away their right of freedom.
